Throughout this class, my art has moved through a range of mediums, subject matters, and styles. Trying to find creative ways to showcase my personality has been big for me during this class, using each piece to show my personality. Color has been a big part of showing this for me, in the first project I showed my personality through using the purple paint and pink tissue paper to add pops of color. I also wanted this piece to be very big and be eye-catching, moving your eyes around the piece through the tissue paper spots. For my turtle, I chose to make it a turtle not only because it is one of my favorite animals, but also because I felt like the shape and dimension of a turtle would be interesting to showcase in this medium. I was excited to work on the shell and in the end adding the color really makes it a focal point of the piece which is what I wanted. Using the beads as eyes really makes a pop because it has a sort of sparkle that adds more dimension to the face and the piece as a whole. The piece of cake was the project this semester that had the most of my personal flair because the requirements were less strict and allowed for more details about me. I themed mine around classic artworks and art museums as art history is a big passion for me and I thought I could show my favorite pieces in my own mini art museums. The columns add depth to the piece and the empty frame on the top shows a lot of negative space use and dimension. I added bright colors like a green for the base around all the art and I tried to make the pieces bright so you could tell what they were. I wanted it to stand out and draw you in, and make sure you would want to take a closer look. For the hand, I was showing a lot more technical skill and working on the anatomy of the hand but I could still show personality through my hand position choice. I chose to do a small hand heart because I wanted to show a heart and this was the only one that was possible with only one hand. I was able to work really hard on the anatomy of the hand for this piece, and I think it showed a lot in the lines of the veins and the nails on this hand. The idiom bust was very intricate and showed a lot of anatomy and skill as well, but with a lot more potential to show personality. I was able to use the features of the face to show my idiom, which was “a leopard can’t change it’s spots”, so although I did a man with a leopard face, I tried to show the anger in his eyes, and the way the man’s face would be beneath the leopard. I wanted to put the spots into the piece and not just paint them to really prove the point of my idiom and show that they can’t be changed, they are printed into the piece and the person. The shadow box project was last and a little rushed, but my piece still showed parts of my personality beneath the basics of the project. To start, I used a landscape I really loved. It was a place in Rome that was on the list of influential art, the 250, so my piece shows the Trojan forum and column. I also did this piece with lots of colorful paper because I knew that it would stand out and catch somebody's eye. Even though I thought it might make it look a little less mature and professional, I liked the idea that it would be bright and I used colors that would make me happy to see. All of these pieces have a bit of myself even though they each taught me something different about sculpture.
